More content creation is not always the answer to stand out in a crowded market

As a service-based business owner, you undoubtedly want your business to stand out from the crowd and be remembered by your target audience.

It’s tough. Today, thousands of businesses, entrepreneurs and brands are vying for the attention of your internal and external target audiences.

How do you stand out from the crowd as a service-based business?

How can you be seen, heard and remembered by your internal and external stakeholders?

As an experienced Marketing Communications Strategist with 25 years of experience, I have seen so many changes in the communications and marketing industry, new online platforms, social media networks and various trends have come and gone however some foundational communications principles remain.

Before I share these with you, I want to let you know the biggest mistake I see businesses make when it comes to standing out in a crowded market. They immediately focus on creating more content rather than creating time to focus on relationship building.

Personal connection and building relationships

For years, I have been talking about the importance of building relationships (online and offline).

Relationships are the difference between being invisible and making your mark. Personal connection and relationship building will differentiate your business.

When you show you care about others, create emotional connections, and spend time building and nurturing relationships you will establish and build trust and credibility. You can deepen connections and build relationships that support you and your business.

More content creation is not always the best solution.

Be intentional and strategic

The key is to be intentional and strategic in your approach. Take time to get to know others, be open and communicate meaningfully. Put your people first.

Your first steps

Before you jump into creating more content:

  • Create space and commit to personal connection, regular engagement and building relationships (online and offline) inside and outside of your business.

  • Be consistent in your approach.

  • Be there and be available.

  • Be flexible, innovative and adaptable because change is inevitable. Your team, clients, external stakeholders, industry and business will grow and evolve.

  • Get a tailored Marketing Communications Strategy and an Internal Communications Strategy for your business aligned with your values, vision and business goals. A clear and concise Communications Strategy will optimise, elevate and create structure around how you communicate your business to your people.

A tailored Marketing Communications Strategy and Internal Communications Strategy will determine if you need to create more content for your internal and external target audiences. They will save you time, money and resources and most importantly help you and your team communicate meaningfully and create success.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
